Abstract:

Collection of original artworks -- 14 drawings and 2 fabric collages -- by pupils of the Chinle Boarding School for Navajo children in Chinle, Arizona. Drawings depict regional Arizona desert landscapes, including Monument Valley; horses; and traditional Navajo structures. Collages perhaps depict Navajo mythological themes. Accompanying material includes 3 photographic prints of students at Chinle and possibly the school's African American art teacher, Esdras Pryor; a copy of the 1964 issue of Chinle Trails, the school's yearbook; and a sign from a 2018 exhibition describing the collection's provenance.
